Why does your car need a fuel cap?

A fuel cap is used to cover the opening of the fuel tank filler neck. Strong safety and emissions initiatives, however, require manufacturers of fuel caps to create new designs that would accomplish other functions.

A fuel cap is now a safety component that prevents the flow of fuel out of the tank filler when a car is in an accident or rollovers. This feature of a fuel cap minimises the chances of fuel leaks and other dangers associated to it.
